Knowing the type of information that is readily available on the Internet is beneficial for your searches. There are basically two types of personal information. One type of personal information is private also referred to as non-public information and the other type of personal information is publicly available information.
Private information is not generally available from public records or other commercial sources. Examples of private information include medical or employment records, tax returns or other personal financial records such as banking records. Non-public information includes information that is protected from disclosure by state or federal law.
The second type of personal information is known as publicly available information. Publicly available information is just that. Information that the subject we are looking for was provided by himself or volunteered to the public. The subject may not realize he is providing private information in such a manner that it can be used later to locate him. The subject may provide information during routine business or personal transactions such as obtaining utility services including telephone service or cable service. However, the utility company may not release that information to a third party.
Specific examples of public records include your driver’s license number, vehicle license tag, real estate records, lien filings, business entity filings, lawsuit information, and civil or criminal court dockets. If the subject is a medical doctor, or has any other professional licenses you will learn where to search to find that information. Information contained in newspapers such as birth, death or marriage notices are considered public information because it is information provided globally and not meant to be private.
